Post Details & Job Profile

There are three types of posts under this recruitment. Let’s understand their roles:

(i) Branch Postmaster (BPM):

  • Role: Head of the Branch Post Office (BO). Responsibilities include managing online/offline transactions, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) operations, and promoting postal schemes in the village.
  • Special Condition: After selection, the BPM has to arrange for accommodation for the Branch Post Office within the village.

(ii) Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM):

  • Role: Sale of stamps/stationery, door-to-door mail delivery, and assisting the BPM in counter duties.
  • Residence: The ABPM is required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the Post Office.

(iii) Dak Sevak:

  • Role: Working in Head Post Offices or Sub Post Offices. Duties include sale of stamps, mail delivery, and sorting (in RMS offices).

Salary Structure (TRCA)

GDS employees receive a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) instead of a regular salary. There is an annual increment of 3%, along with Dearness Allowance (DA).

Eligibility Criteria

A. Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th Class).
  • Subjects: Passing marks in Mathematics and English are mandatory.

B. Other Qualifications:

  • Computer Knowledge: Basic knowledge of operating computers.

Selection Process

There will be No Written Exam or Interview. Selection is based purely on a Merit List.

  1. System Generated Merit List: The merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the 10th Class.
  2. Marks Calculation: Percentage will be calculated to the fourth decimal point.
  3. Grades to Marks: If the board awards Grades/Points, they will be converted to marks by multiplying by a multiplication factor of 9.5 (e.g., A1 Grade = 10 Points = 95 Marks).
  4. Tie-Breaking Rule: If two candidates have the same marks, the order of preference will be:
    • Older Age
    • ST Trans-woman > ST Female > SC Trans-woman… and so on.

  • General / OBC / EWS (Male): ₹ 100/-

How to Apply Online?

The application process is simple. Follow these steps:

  1. Registration: Visit the official website indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement and click on “Registration”. Verify your Mobile Number and Email ID.
  2. Fill Form: Enter your details (Name, Father’s Name, DOB, 10th Marks, etc.). Note that only one registration is allowed per candidate.
  3. Upload Documents: You only need to upload your Recent Photograph and Signature. No other documents need to be uploaded at this stage.

Q1: When will the exam for GDS recruitment be conducted? Ans: There is No Exam for GDS recruitment. Selection is done directly based on the merit of 10th Class marks.
